This coming 12-13 May will witness a conference in Lima, Peru, co-organized by AFI’s FINTWG, Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y AFP (SBS) of Peru and the World Bank.
The forum’s theme is “Ensuring Integrity While Promoting Financial Inclusion,” complimented by the forum’s four main objectives:
- To identify promising cases on how the regulation (emerging in developing countries) has flexibly responded to new, technology-based financial inclusion solutions (e.g., mobile financial service business models) while maintaining as much as possible adherence to financial integrity standards.
- To identify regulatory and supervisory challenges for policymakers in the expanding financial access while ensuring maintenance of sound financial integrity.
- To provide a platform for policymakers for mutual learning, information sharing and dissemination of lessons learned from the experiences and cases of financial integrity.
The use of new technology and solutions has created a coming together of international policies concerning the conducting of financial services in a safe and stable environment. Using the work of the World Bank in their publication “Protecting Mobile Money Against Financial Crime” as well as the first hand experiences of policy makers, the conference hopes to achieve innovative solutions for financial integrity. The focus will be on mobile financial services with participants invited to consider practical solutions for implementing proportional regulations.
Framing the conference will also be the second gathering of FINTWG which will meet 11 and 13 May.
Participation in the forum is by invitation. For further information on the forum and the work of FINTWG, please contact Nancy Widjaja.
