We are delighted to invite you to the Alliance for Financial Inclusion side event at COP27 – How Central Banks Promote Financial Inclusion for Climate Resilience and Mitigation
When – 16 November 2022, 15:30-17:00
Where – EIB & BENELUX Pavilion at COP27, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Tonino Lamborghini International Convention Center Pavilion in Blue Zone – Zone D, location P87
This side event will explore the emerging role of central banks and financial regulators in contributing to climate action, specifically focusing on how to promote adaptation and mitigation amongst the most vulnerable populations through financial inclusion. The event will also discuss what types of concrete policies are at the disposal of central banks to promote inclusive green finance.
During the side event, the Roadmap to Inclusive Green Finance will be launched. This is a milestone collaboration between the University of Luxembourg and the Alliance for Financial Inclusion and shares policy insights on how to further national Inclusive Green Finance policy development.
Inclusive Green Finance is a quickly evolving policy area focusing on how access to financial services, such as insurance, credit, payment systems and formal savings, can advance climate mitigation and adaptation. Central banks from the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) have championed this policy area, focusing on bringing together financial inclusion and green finance policy development.
Financial sector regulators in developing and emerging economies have started to play an increasing role in addressing climate change vulnerabilities by devising and implementing policies that include individuals and MSMEs to mitigate or build resilience to the impacts of climate change. AFI members, central banks, and financial regulators did, in September 2022, recommit to Inclusive Green Finance developments by adopting the updated Sharm El Sheikh Accord on Inclusive Green Finance.
