Empowering young policymakers: first ‘AFI Engage’ cohort meets in San Salvador

The 2024-2025 AFI Engage cohort, a group of 15 young policymakers from across the global AFI network, met for the first time today in San Salvador.

Launched in 2024, AFI Engage is a one-year leadership and mentorship program which aims to foster the next generation of leaders, empowering them to take forward AFI’s mission of financial inclusion and sustainable development.

“The AFI Engage program has been designed to enhance these emerging policymakers’ leadership skills, deepen their intellectual and technical knowledge, and prepare them to take on leadership roles, shaping the future of financial inclusion policy,” said Aban Haq, AFI Head of Project Management and Membership Engagement.

The cohort will be attending the 2024 AFI Global Policy Forum, taking place this week in San Salvador. Their program for 2024-2025 also includes mentoring from AFI experts, a series of virtual masterclasses, and an immersion program at AFI headquarters in Q1 2025.

The AFI Engage program is supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
