SUGEF-AFI Virtual Member Training on MSME Access to Finance Ecosystem

Superintendencia General de Entidades Financieras (SUGEF) and AFI are organizing virtual member training on micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) access to the finance ecosystem on 7-10 December 2020. The training comprises three sessions held virtually, each being three hours long.

The training is anchored in different AFI knowledge products developed by the SME Finance Working Group with an emphasis on: (1) SME Finance Guideline Note and (2) SME Finance Responses to COVID-19 in AFI Member Countries.

The objective of this virtual member training is that, by using AFI’s knowledge products, the participants will understand a range of options to plan, design, implement and assess policy and legal measures that support access to finance for SMEs. Participants will be able to:

  1. List the various elements of an effective policy framework that provides holistic support to MSMEs by adopting an ecosystem approach that fosters growth of MSME sector in the country;
  2. Analyze the regulatory aspects of alternative financing, particularly in the context of emerging options, such as digital finance, equity and hybrid instruments and crowd funding;
  3. Identify mitigation measures to sustain MSMEs amid COVID-19 considering the impact on fiscal, monetary, structural and balance of payments, and with a focus on women-led MSMEs and enterprises run by youth.

The training is intended for senior officials at AFI member institutions involved in the formulation and implementation of policies and regulations for SMEs and those managing financial inclusion, COVID-19 responses and women’s empowerment initiatives. The training will follow AFI’s model of peer learning and be led by technical experts from the AFI network, SUGEF and the AFI Management Unit.
