AFI’s working groups met to cover their individual agendas, discuss items of interest and strategize for the next year, in conjunction with the 2011 Global Policy Form (GPF) in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
The Financial Inclusion Data Working Group (FIDWG), comprised of 15 members, discussed the findings of their core set of indicators as well as elected two new leaders. Moving forward, the FIDWG will focus on demand-side surveys.
The 18 members of the Mobile Financial Services Working Group (MFSWG) reviewed their series of guideline notes which will be published shortly. The MFSWG will meet next in Moscow in 2012 to continue its work.
The Financial Integrity Working Group (FINTWG) and its nine members discussed the preliminary results of their survey of 20 AFI members on AML/CFT challenges. The FINTWG will be working to develop guidelines for risk methodology for use in financial inclusion.
The 20 members of the Consumer Empowerment and Market Conduct Working Group (CEMC) analyzed preliminary survey results, discussed G20 principles on financial consumer protection and working group governance. The CEMC created five sub-groups dealing within their 4 priority areas as well as another on the G20 principles.
The Pacific Islands Working Group (PIWG), which focused on mobile financial services in 2010-2011, will undertake a major data project in the coming year. The PIWG has also prioritized issues related to consumer protection and education.
