A new publication from the Group of Experts to the G20 Taskforce on a Global Mobilization Against Climate Change highlights the critical importance of Inclusive Green Finance to global climate action.
‘A Green and Just Planet’ includes a section on Inclusive Green Finance, and the recommendation that “the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion expand its work to develop explicit strategies for enhancing inclusive green finance, to ensure that economically vulnerable groups—including low-income households and SMEs—have access to affordable finance to allow them to invest in adaptation and build resilience, contribute to mitigation efforts, and benefit from economic opportunities in the context of a just green transition.”
“IGF’s prominence in the G20 report is testament to the impact of AFI’s work in recent years,” said Johanna Nyman, AFI’s Head of Inclusive Green Finance. “It is also a step towards more collective action. To make IGF a reality on the ground, we need policy and regulation, combined with incentives for the private sector, awareness-raising across a wide public, funding to derisk IGF initiatives, and an enabling standard setting environment. This report might help us get closer to this reality.”
