14 young policymakers from across the AFI network gathered in Kuala Lumpur from 24-26 February 2025 for the AFI Engage Accelerator Program, marking the halfway point of their year-long leadership journey.
An intensive three-day program, featuring guest speakers from Bank Negara Malaysia, the SEACEN Centre, Asia School of Business, Toastmasters Club, and Leaderonomics, was designed to help the AFI Engage Fellows to become better leaders, and to build public speaking and influencing skills, in order to achieve effective policy advocacy.
“By equipping young policymakers with the knowledge, confidence, and network they need, we are investing in the future of financial inclusion,” said Aban Haq, AFI Head of PMO & Membership Engagement. “The insights gained from the AFI Engage Accelerator Program will serve as a foundation for Fellows’ continued growth, positioning them to lead the next wave of financial inclusion initiatives worldwide.”
“The program pushed me to reexamine my strengths and weakness. I was placed in a role that required me to step outside my comfort zone, and the most significant lessons I’ve learned is that good leaders should be in constant learning. I would absolutely recommend this program to anyone looking to grow personally and professionally,” said Abdulvahhobov Suhaili, National Bank of Tajikistan.
“The AFI Engage program has helped me feel more confident sharing my ideas, improve my analytical skills and communication skills, and connect with experienced professionals and learn from them,” said Claudia Alejandra Castillo Cabral, Superintendencia de Bancos de la República Dominicana.
