From 12 to 16 May 2026, AFI, Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance (PBCSF), and the Finance Center for South-South Co-operation (FCSSC) are organizing a global training event in Beijing, exploring the role of Artificial Intelligence in Inclusive and Responsible Financial Ecosystems.
The event, attended by 35 participants, including 16 staff from 11 AFI member institutions, marks the second year of AFI’s collaboration with PBCSF and FCSSC. Attendees are studying China’s experience in implementing AI for financial services, helping them to evaluate suitable applications of AI in financial inclusion policy, risk management, and market conduct supervision.
“AI is reshaping the financial ecosystem at astonishing speed, far outpacing the evolution of traditional regulatory frameworks,” said PBCSF Dean, Professor Jiao Jie. “When AI decision-making becomes difficult to interpret, and when cross-border data flows challenge traditional regulatory boundaries, we must rethink our regulatory philosophies, tools, and cooperation models.”
“There is no better place for this conversation than China, a global leader in deploying Artificial Intelligence at a massive scale,” said AFI’s Deputy CEO & COO, Soo Yuen Chee. “The opportunity for our network to learn from China’s experiences – both successes and challenges – in order to adapt those lessons to our own countries, is precious.”
“Based in Hong Kong, we see so many flashy technology breakthroughs everyday,
in the forms of big IPOs, M&As and explosive financing stories,” said FCSSC Vice Chairwoman, Joyce Zhang. “But how about the everyday life of those who are not part of this fancy world? Financial inclusion cannot be achieved alone, and nor can this program, which is a testament to the power of partnership between FCSSC, AFI and PBCSF.”
In addition to classroom sessions, participants are visiting leading technology companies to discover how AI deployment is being governed, and data security managed, at scale. Following the training program, participants will attend the Global Finance Forum (GFF), organized by PBCSF in Chengdu from 18–19 May.
