On 24 and 25 June, the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) hosted the national finals of the 6th Economic Olympiad. Over 800 high school students from 56 schools participated in the competition, which tests young people’s knowledge of economics and finance.
The event was organized by the non-governmental organization, Liberalni forum, which distributed economics textbooks to 314 schools and 20 libraries, specifically targeting rural municipalities.
Dr Jasmina Selimović, Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighted that “this year we have 65% female participants in the competition, and 59% female finalists. Your presence here shows a willingness to invest in your own knowledge, an investment that yields the greatest and longest lasting return.”
In addition to written tests, participants took part in a “FinZ Flow” challenge to design innovative financial technology solutions, while a gamified financial literacy tournament required them to solve complex financial and budgetary problems.
During the event, the Central Bank organized a keynote address from CBBH Head of Monetary and Financial Sector Analysis, Emina Milišić, and a panel discussion moderated by CBBH Senior Financial Education and Inclusion Specialist, Adnan Bahtić. Panellists concluded that robust economic literacy is a strategic necessity for Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path toward European integration.
The top five students will now go on to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina at the international final, which takes place from 10 to 14 August 2026 in Olympia, Greece.
