Central banks, financial supervisors, and financial intermediaries represent critical macro-economic actors that can facilitate the development of economies that are environmentally sustainable and resilient to climate shocks, exercising ‘climate positive’ influence over business decisions. Through its Readiness Programme, GCF can extend resources and technical assistance to help central banks and FIs to deploy such leverage power effectively.
Aligning with AFI members efforts in implementing policies, regulations and national strategies to mitigate or build resilience to climate change, the GCF can enable financial regulators and policymakers to strengthen their regulatory frameworks and collaborate promoting innovative financial instruments such as green bonds and climate-focused investment funds to channel financial resources towards climate-friendly projects and sectors, benefiting the most vulnerable populations and SMEs.
This informational event aims to raise awareness of the various ways to engage with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) among the members of the Alliance of Financial Inclusion. The session will cover GCF funding windows, accreditation processes, and the Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme (the Readiness Programme). Presenters will specifically elaborate on the support available under the Readiness Programme and highlight opportunities that are relevant for important national stakeholders, such as central banks and financial regulators.
