The Governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority (PMA), Yahya Shunnar, has met with Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, to discuss progress on a project, funded by Luxembourg and AFI, to advance gender inclusive finance and digital financial services in Palestine.
PMA staff briefed the Luxembourg team on the project’s achievements, and planning for the second phase of the project, which will focus on strengthening financial education and expanding access to banking services for marginalized areas and communities.
Governor Shunnar emphasized the project’s importance in promoting financial inclusion, ensuring stability, and achieving sustainable economic development in Palestine, while Minister Bettel reaffirmed Luxembourg’s continuous support for the development of banking services in Palestine, expressing his appreciation for the achievements of the PMA despite the current challenges.
“International cooperation plays a major part in advancing progress on financial inclusion, particularly in conflict-affected regions like Palestine,” said AFI Chief Executive Officer, Dr Alfred Hannig. “The support provided by the Government of Luxembourg, allied with the commitment and creativity displayed by the PMA, is enabling breakthrough achievements on gender inclusive finance and digitization in the country.”
