The G-24/AFI Roundtable provides a high-level platform for engaging central bank Governors and senior policymakers from developing and emerging countries in discussion on globally relevant financial inclusion policy issues.
This year, the Roundtable will explore the relationship of financial inclusion, financial stability and monetary policy through the lens of crypto assets. Adoption has grown globally and particularly in a number of developing countries, where crypto assets, and stablecoins in particular, are being explored for their relevance to achieving cheaper remittances, faster payments, and broader access to financial services, even as they may raise new risks for monetary sovereignty, capital flows, and financial stability. Whether and how crypto assets can support financial inclusion without compromising monetary and financial stability is therefore an important policy consideration.
