During the recent 2026 AFI Global Policy Forum, Mastercard received AFI’s highest honor – the Honorary Recognition Award, given each year by AFI’s Board of Directors to individuals or organizations which have made a significant contribution to advancing AFI’s mission to advance financial inclusion. 

“Since 2014, when we began our strategic partnership with Mastercard, we have witnessed incredible progress in driving inclusive finance,” said AFI Chief Executive Officer, Dr Alfred Hannig.

“Mastercard’s support has allowed countries in the AFI network to make breakthrough gains in inclusive digital finance, gender-inclusive finance, inclusive green finance, SME finance, and many other areas. The firm’s commitment to advancing inclusive growth makes them a worthy recipient of AFI Honorary Recognition.”
